Commuting In The Valley

Yes, My first new train pic in years. Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner so I had to hake a photo and Photshopped it as best as I could. This is the Front Runner Commuter train that runs from Salt Lake City to Pleaseant View, Utah. It is operated by the Utah Transit Authority, the Salt Lake City transit provider operating buses and the TRAX Light Rail line. The line opened on April 26, 2008, riding over the historic Mormon built Utah Central Railroad and running parallel to Interstate 15 for much of it's route providing a good alternative to driving. The equipment consists of MPXpress built MP36PH-3C Diesel locomotives (pictured here) and Bombardier built Bi-Level coaches, all were purchased new. They also have a fleet of Comet single level coaches that last saw service on New Jersey Transit. These were originally built by Pullman for the Erie Lacawana Railroad. The original Front Runner line is now called Front Runner North as a new line is being built from Salt Lake City to Provo, Utah. That will be called Front Runner South.
